Sodium Creatine Phosphate (Creatine phosphate disodium salt)

Phosphocreatine (CP) is one of the key substances involved in cellular energy metabolism in the human body. As an endogenous molecule, CP serves as an immediate donor to replenish adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and acts as a “buffer” that keeps the ATP concentration constant in high-energy-consuming cells. It was first discovered in 1927. Sodium creatine phosphate is a novel energy-supplying agent that can provide exogenous energy to cardiac muscle cells, maintain high-energy phosphate levels, and promote the synthesis of adenine nucleotides.

Areas of Application

Medical field

Primarily used in heart failure, myocardial infarction, and peri-operative cardioprotection. It is also applied in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, pediatric myocarditis, prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Dietary supplement field

Can be incorporated into sports-nutrition products to potentially enhance muscle function and improve muscular performance.

Manufacturing technology

Sodium creatine phosphate is produced either by an enzymatic or by a chemical synthetic route. Regardless of the method, the clinically used preparations are always formulated as the disodium salt.

Combination therapy

Current data suggest that, on the basis of routine antiviral and cardio-supportive treatment, adding sodium creatine phosphate together with vitamin C or coenzyme Q10 may offer synergistic benefits: the former replenishes myocardial energy and stabilizes cell membranes, while vitamin C scavenges free radicals via its antioxidant action and coenzyme Q10 protects mitochondrial function. Some pediatric patients thus treated showed trends toward further improvements in myocardial enzyme profiles, inflammatory markers, and overall efficacy, without evident additional adverse effects. However, limited sample sizes, treatment durations, and observation time-points mean these differences still require confirmation in larger studies; clinical decisions should therefore be made cautiously on an individual basis.
