NMN Raw Materials and Skin Health
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is a key precursor of NAD⁺. NAD⁺ takes part in numerous physiological processes in the human body, including cellular energy metabolism, DNA‑damage response, and redox balance. With advancing age and continuous ultraviolet radiation exposure, NAD⁺ levels in skin tissues gradually decline. This change is correlated with altered physiological conditions of skin cells. A substantial body of basic research has investigated the physiological effects of NMN on the skin.
Boosting Intracellular NAD⁺ Pools
Cell and animal experiments demonstrate that NMN can raise intracellular NAD⁺ reserves, thereby modulating the activity of the sirtuin family. It supports mitochondrial homeostasis, facilitates mitophagy, assists in the clearance of damaged organelles, reduces reactive oxygen species accumulation, and alleviates cellular stress induced by oxidative stress. In in‑vitro skin fibroblast models, NMN helps sustain the homeostasis of extracellular‑matrix‑related proteins, exerts modulatory effects on the expression of matrix‑degrading enzymes, lowers the release of cellular‑senescence‑associated signaling molecules under oxidative conditions, and preserves normal physiological activity of fibroblasts.

Counteracting Photodamage
In photodamage‑related studies, observations from animal models indicate that NMN modulates inflammatory signaling pathways, down‑regulates the expression of certain pro‑inflammatory factors, mitigates stress responses of skin cells triggered by ultraviolet exposure, and contributes to the physiological integrity of epidermal cells. These pre‑clinical experiments suggest that NMN possesses potential research value in supporting the physiological homeostasis of skin cells.
Published human clinical trials have verified that oral NMN supplementation effectively elevates circulating levels of NAD⁺ and its metabolites in peripheral blood. Several trials have reported moderate improvements in physical performance and metabolic markers among participants.
NMN mainly exhibits research‑backed potential to support skin physiology at the cellular level. It cannot replace fundamental skin‑health practices such as rigorous sun protection, regular sleep schedules and balanced diets, nor can it be used for the prevention or treatment of skin diseases.
