Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a type of stroke with high morbidity and mortality, and those who survive often have severe neurological damage.

 

NMN has a positive effect in a collagenase-induced intracerebral hemorrhage model.

 

ICH injury can be divided into two stages. First, hematoma formation causes mechanical damage to adjacent tissues, and then hematoma causes pathological changes that cause secondary damage. In the collagenase-induced ICH mouse model study by Wei et al., NMN was injected into the tail vein 30 minutes after the onset of ICH, and the NAD+ level increased at 2 and 6 hours, which was protective against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and cerebral ischemic stroke. In addition, although NMN treatment does not reduce hematoma volume and hemoglobin content, it can significantly reduce cerebral edema, brain cell death, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 expression, and microglial activation in the area of cerebral hemorrhage. and neutrophil infiltration, suggesting that NMN can be used in the treatment of ICH.

Shu et al. used collagenase-induced mice as a model to study the protective effect of NMN on hemorrhagic transformation of cerebral infarction in a model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). In this study, the experiment was divided into sham operation group, model group and administration group. NMN was injected into the tail vein 1h after the onset of ICH, and the neurological function, brain edema, hematoma volume, body weight, hemorrhage of peripheral tissues of mice were affected 24h after the onset of ICH. The results showed that compared with the other two groups, the administration group had no significant effect on the blood loss and hematoma volume of the mice, but had a significant recovery of neurological function. It can significantly improve brain edema, inflammatory factors, body weight and apoptosis.

 

The above studies suggest that NMN has a positive effect in a collagenase-induced intracerebral hemorrhage model.
