Researchers observed the clinical efficacy of citicoline on Parkinson's disease with cognitive dysfunction and explored its impact on people's daily living abilities.
The study used the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Parkinson's Neuropsychological Dementia Assessment (PANDA) to judge clinical efficacy.
The research results show that the MMSE, MoCA, and PANDA scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the cognitive function was significantly improved. The possible mechanisms are:
(1) Citicoline has a protective effect on neurons and can improve the cognitive function of patients. The reason is that when citicoline is hydrolyzed, it can provide choline, and choline can promote the secretion of acetylcholine and the synthesis of nerve membrane phospholipids. Acetylcholine can It protects the functional integrity of the central nervous system by stimulating cholinergic nerves, and ultimately alleviates symptoms such as memory loss and cognitive impairment.
(2) As a nucleoside derivative, citicoline can reduce cerebral vascular resistance and increase cerebral blood flow, thereby improving microcirculation and promoting brain substance metabolism; in addition, citicoline can also enhance the ascending activation of the brainstem reticular structure system function, thereby enhancing the function of the pyramidal system, improving motor paralysis, promoting brain awakening and functional recovery, and has a good effect in the auxiliary treatment of patients with Alzheimer's disease.
