In this study, 40 healthy volunteers were selected and divided into two groups: Group A: 20 volunteers received 500 mg/d starch capsules for 2 weeks; Group B: 20 volunteers received 500 mg/d citicoline Capsules, lasts 2 weeks. Human alertness, visual working memory and markers of oxidative stress were assessed in each volunteer before and after taking citicoline and placebo.

The study found that citicoline significantly improved psychomotor alertness, arousal, and visual working memory in normal healthy volunteers compared with placebo, and significantly improved oxidative stress.
