Adenosine is a kind of nucleoside, which is composed of ribose (ribofuranose) and a part of adenine, connected by a β-N9-glycosidic bond in the middle.
Adenosine plays important role in biochemistry, especially in energy transfer as Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) or adenosine diphosphate (ADP), or signaling as cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP).
Adenosine is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter and may promote sleep.

Medicinal Functions:
Adenosine can directly enter the myocardium to generate adenylate through phosphorylation, which participates in myocardial energy metabolism, and also participates in dilating coronary blood vessels, and increasing blood flow.
It can be used to treat supraventricular tachycardia.
Adenosine has physiological effects on the cardiovascular system and many other systems and tissues of the body.
As an important intermediate, Adenosine is used to synthesize adenosine triphosphate (ATP), adenine, adenylate, and arabinose adenosine.
