Glutathione improves inflammation in the body

Glutathione (GSH) is the body’s most powerful antioxidant. It has tremendous ability to fight oxidative stress and neutralize harmful free radicals.

GSH is not only the prosthetic group of glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase, but also the coenzyme of glyoxalase and triose dehydrogenase. It is an important regulatory metabolic substance in cells, participates in the tricarboxylic acid cycle and sugar metabolism in the body, and can activate many enzymes, such as sulfhydryl (SH) enzyme-coenzyme, etc., thus promoting the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. GSH is widely used, with its main focus being cosmetics, health products and pharmaceuticals.

Glutathione is also important for the regeneration of other antioxidants needed by the body, such as vitamin C and vitamin E. It boosts your overall antioxidant defense.

Glutathione (GSH) blocks the production of most inflammatory cytokines. If you have a chronic health problem, cytokines may keep you in a constant state of low-grade inflammation.

Glutathione deficiency causes inflammation in mice. Blocking the inflammatory pathways (MAPK and iNOS) restored their levels. This suggests that glutathione and inflammation are in a very close relationship.

Glutathione, on the other hand, blocks NF-κB, the main controller of inflammation in the body. This protein complex increases the activity of various inflammatory genes and their products.

Many airway and lung diseases are caused by excessive inflammation and can benefit from restoring healthy glutathione levels.

Viral infections flood the body with oxidative stress due to inflammation, consuming more glutathione.

Poor immunity and increased infection rates are associated with low glutathione levels in many chronic diseases.

Once glutathione is depleted, immune cells lose their ability to fight infection. NAC boosts glutathione in the body, restoring the ability of immune cells to kill the bacteria that cause tuberculosis.

In another study, maintaining cysteine levels helped control glutathione. In turn, immune cells regain the power to destroy microorganisms.

Older AIDS patients produce less GSH, which weakens their already fragile immune systems and reduces insulin sensitivity. Increasing glutathione levels may help improve symptoms and reduce the incidence of bacterial infections.
