The concentration of NAD in the blood of animals and humans decreases with age, which is related to reduced synthesis of NAD and increased activity of consuming enzymes. NMN supplementation has been shown to increase NAD levels in the blood of middle-aged and older adults.

1. Personalized study of NMN supplements

Personalized study of NMN supplements

Recent personalized research on Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) supplements mainly explores how NMN, the precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), decreases with age and through Supplement NMN to increase NAD concentration in the blood. The study included a post hoc analysis of a randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial involving 80 healthy adults aged 40 to 65 years. Participants received placebo or 300 mg, 600 mg, or 900 mg of NMN supplements daily for 60 days.

Studies have shown that changes in blood NAD concentration after NMN supplementation are dose-dependent but have high inter-individual variability. Increases in blood NAD concentrations after NMN supplementation are associated with better functional outcomes and quality of life. Therefore, blood NAD concentration should be measured during NMN supplementation. Future studies should explore personalized NAD precursor supplementation and optimal blood NAD concentrations.

This article provides clinical trial data on the effects of NMN supplementation on blood NAD concentrations in healthy middle-aged adults and discusses the possibility of personalized supplementation strategies.

2. NMN may alleviate movement disorders

In addition, there are studies exploring the effects of NMN on mice with symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a fatal neurodegenerative disease characterized by the death of upper and lower motor neurons. Common ALS symptoms include weight loss, motor deficits, muscle weakness and atrophy, and paralysis.

Many previous studies have proven that NAD homeostasis in ALS patients is impaired. In this experiment, researchers fed ALS mice a diet supplemented with NMN, proving that dietary NMN supplementation can improve neuromuscular junction (NMJ) morphology, innervation, and mitochondrial structure. , and reduce reactive astrogliosis in the ventral horn of the lumbar spinal cord.

The findings indicate that dietary intake of NMN can slow movement disorders, enhance NMJ function and improve healthspan in ALS mice.
